Women's Circles; Finding Deep Connection Through Sharing Stories and Holding Space
Bringing women together in community has been a growing passion of mine since the start of the pandemic. Women meeting at coffee shops, going out to dinner, heading to the beach, having a workout buddy at the gym, or a night out on the town is a fundamental part of us connecting. Not to mention, helping each other in times of need by babysitting our children, preparing a meal for us when we don't feel good, or simply bonding over downing an entire carton of ice cream together when words just won't help any further. When the world shut down, so many of us were feeling isolated and alone. We had Zoom meetings and Face Time calls, but the conversations and connections just weren't the same. The Zoom meetings were work related and often filled with added stressors and Face Time calls were a source to connect, but I wasn't feeling a sense of community. It didn't take long for my creative juices to start flowing. About a year before the pandemic I had attended a women's retreat at the Omega Institute and met some of the most amazing and inspiring females. The supports and connections were deeper than anything that I had experienced in the past. Our vibrations were rising as a collective group and the kindness, compassion, and empathy that birthed itself among these women was something I held dear to my heart. We had a private FaceBook group with 100 plus women following the retreat, so I sent out a message to them with the idea of putting together a similar group over Zoom. Not entirely the same as being in person, but I had to work with what I had. I reconnected with a woman named Amy I had met at the retreat and we decided to put something together using our skills as Life Coaches and then added in journaling, self-inquiry, meditations, chanting, and sharing some of our most challenging experiences, as well as our wins and successes. We ran three Hearts Rising Women's groups and now I am putting together a Women's Share Circle. Share circles have their own special purpose and the healing that happens in them is deep and profound. What could be so powerful about women sharing their stories, having a quiet, sacred space held for them and listening to other's? The simple answer is, we are more alike than we are different. Our experiences aren't always exactly the same, but we were all born with the ability to feel worry, fear, doubt, sadness, joy, inspiration, and confidence. Those of us that are brought together in divine timing mirror each other in some way. When we can see ourselves in each other, our hearts open a little wider, we feel less alone, we lean in a little more, and as a result we create an incredible sisterhood that can last a lifetime. Different from our meeting "out in the community" share circles are THE COMMUNITY. It is birthed from our hearts and connected by our shared emotions, experiences, and energy.
